Dirk Moses began his studies at the University of Queensland in Brisbane in Australia, thereafter reading history at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, before taking his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in 2000 with a dissertation about the 45er generation of postwar intellectuals.
From 1996 to 2000, he conducted his research in Freiburg i. Br., where he was also "wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter" in the "Historisches Seminar" of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität.
Since 2000, he has taught at the University of Sydney, where he is a senior lecturer.
He is in Germany in 2008 as a Fellow/Stipendiat of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung. His project is an intellectual history of the genocide concept.
